Question:
As you can imagine, air travel has declined in recent months and this brings us to this week�s Reader Poll question. McCarran International Airport (Las Vegas) is expected to cut their budget by $30+ million for 2009. The budget cuts means services being stopped or closed during non peak times such as some bathrooms being closed. This week�s Reader Poll asks the question would you be in favor of an additional Las Vegas airline ticket tax of maybe $2 per person for those travelers coming through McCarran or is it better to keep costs down and reduce certain services within the airport? What is your opinion? We want to hear from you!

If you are only talking about a couple dollars, and that would be all the cost, then I am not against paying a $2 increase to keep all services as they are now. Robert Teller

My fear of being taxed for services to keep an airport running smoothly is that will it stop at $2 per passenger. Dr. Coen FL

Travellers are already paying higher prices for tickets and travel, with significant cutbacks in services. To apply an additional "tax" to keep services intact seems to be counter productive, if not unfair and unjust. If services continue to degrade, travellers will stop

Paying an additional $2 per ticket would definately be worth it to know that if I need a bathroom available during 'non-peak hours', that there would be one instead of searching the halls for one! Suzanne Skeens Cortland, IL

I am tired of paying taxes on everything that is run improperly and then they want to charge us little guys because of bad decisions or favoritism of contracts. This country would be in great shape if all contracts were open to bid and every expenditure someone had to be accountable for the money. Rose. Miami FL

Let them shut down services, hire new managers and maybe the next person can operate it correctly. Government and buildings like airports have so much waste and bogus costs that they should be held responsible. Once a person is found guilty of spending tax payers money flagrently then others may get in line. Robert S. NYC NY
